The West Virginia School Board Association (WVSBA) Winter Conference agenda will include the following workshops and presentations:

  • A review of the state’s absenteeism issue from a state and local perspective, concentrating on how county boards respond to this problem.
  • A review of the state’s student academic mathematics performance - again from a state and local perspective and how county boards can best respond.
  • An in-depth review of the role(s) of county board members as established in law, in terms of practice, and in relation to the county superintendent. An interactive format will be used.
  • The state of West Virginia students: Health, Welfare, and other considerations
  • A “county board empowerment” forum led by various county board members, include Monongalia County Board of Education President Ron Lytle.

The full agenda will be forwarded shortly, once all presenters are confirmed, according to WVSBA Executive Director Howard M. O’Cull, Ed.D.

According to Conference Registrar Shirley Davidson, about 210 persons are expected to register for the Conference which will be held February 15/16 at the Charleston Town Center Marriott Hotel.

The tentative agenda will identify conference programming as well as other information regarding the association’s FY20 Annual Business Meeting and related activities.
