West Virginia School Board Association Executive Director Howard M. O’Cull, Ed.D., has announced an “all association post-legislative conference call” will be scheduled for early April.

“I am working with the association’s executive committee to schedule this call,” according to O’Cull.

He said each county board is encouraged to have one board member representative participate.

O’Cull said details will be forwarded after the conclusion of the current legislative session which is slated to adjourn today. 

 

The Doddridge County Board of Education is seeking applicants for the position of county schools superintendent.

The Summers County Board of Education, Hinton, W.V., is seeking applicants for the position of Summers County Schools Superintendent for a term commencing July 1, 2016.

An online Application Form will be made available at 8:30 a.m. March 3, 2016. Application must be postmarked on or before March 17, 2016. 

According to county board officials, Summers Superintendent Vicki Hinerman is retiring effective June 30, 2016.

James “Jim” Frye, a member and president of the Logan County Board of Education, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, following and extended illness with cancer.

Frye, first elected to the Logan County Board of Education in 2012, was active in many facets of the Logan County/Logan community serving as president of board of “The Aracoma Story” and a member of the Logan Kiwanis Club.

He was a former board member as well as camp counselor of the WE CAN program for at risk children. Jim was past president of the West Virginia Beverage Association. He was on the Foundation Board for Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Jim was also active in the Logan Kiwanis Club.

He was a member of the West Logan Church of God, and a past member of Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin, W.Va.

Reacting to his death, members of the Logan County Board of Education praised Frye for his commitment to the board and the Logan County educational system despite the gravity of his illness.

Frye was born  in Man, West Virginia, February 21, 1965, the son of  Judith (Duncan) and Kenneth Ray Frye of Stollings.

He was a manager at Pepsi Bottling Company, Stollings.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa; two sons, Jackson and Griffin, and his parents, Kenneth and Judy Frye.

All arrangements will be held at West Logan Church of God.

Visitation is scheduled for today with a funeral service Saturday at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery located in Logan County.

A scholarship fund is being set up in Frye’s memory. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations to the Memorial Scholarship Fund be sent.
